Day 4

We woke up well refreshed. We both agreed the beds were very comfortable. We thought we were going to get breakfast at the hotel, but there was a fee for breakfast. So, we decided to eat at the coffee shop Haley wanted to check out for the strawberry lavender scones they have. We looked out the window and saw the snow covered mountains.

We checked the weather and found it was 54 degrees outside. We were in the desert yesterday at 104 degrees and wake up to 54 degrees. Go figure! We got our bags together and checked out.

We drove to the coffee shop, which was located downtown. We were surprised how empty the streets and traffic was at 8 AM. We found the coffee shop and were the first customers at 8 AM when they opened. I guess Salt Lake City starts a little later than some other cities.

They had an espresso tonic on thier menu. I had to see how it compared to mine.

I think they forgot the espresso? I also bought a breakfast sandwich. It was pretty good.

And of course the strawberry lavender scone. It had edible flowers on it for decor. A little over the top for me, but it was very good for a scone.

The coffee shop was pretty cool inside. It filled up very quickly with customers after we ordered. I asked what the building was used for in the past. I’m glad I asked as we were leaving. It was used as a slaughter and meat packing house in the early 1900s.

We decided to take a slight detour on the way out to see the temple area of Salt Lake City. Unfortunately, there was a lot of construction around the temple. I wasn't able to get very good pictures but here’s some of what I took of the downtown area and the temple.

We found our way back onto 15 north and headed to Yellowstone National Park.

Things started to get a little more green, the further north we traveled.

We stopped for gas with an interesting hotel. You registered at the cash desk in the gas station for a key.

The countryside was so amazing. Especially with the snow capped mountains in the backdrop.

We started getting hungry and I found a dinner in a small town along the way.

The staff werr very friendly. The food was ok. I think my chicken sandwich was better than the chicken strips Haley ordered. But, it filled our bellies.

The best part were the milkshakes afterwards!

We still had a bit more driving before we got to the park. Again, beautiful country side.

We finally arived at the park and used Haleys annual pass she bought yesterday. Worked like a champ. We were soon overwhelmed by the scenery in the park.

Our main objective was Old Faithful. There were several places to pull off the road the enjoy the scenery, but we were pressed for time. After driving about 50 miles through the park we arrived at our destination.

We evidently had just missed the show so, we had some time to check out the visitors center while we waited for the next eruption.

They have some kind of formula to predict the next eruption which they post inside the visitors center. It was well worth the wait.

Like I said, we were pressed for time, so we returned to the car after the show at started for the hotel. We had another three and a half hours to the hotel and the guy said he’d wait till 9 PM in the lobby for us to arrive. It took us an hour and a half to get out of the park. We entered the park on the west end and exited on the east. We traveled almost 70 miles across Yellowstone National Park. It is so big! We should have planned a full day or maybe two days to visit. Anyway, the view leaving was even better, if you can believe that.

We even saw a little of the wildlife.

We exited the park and traveled a ways when the terrain once again changed. The diversity of the topography we witnessed in just the two days so far is almost uncomprehendable. Everything just went from moutains and rocky terain to flat plains as far as the eye could see.

We arrived at our final destination for the day in Greybull Wyoming. A small little town with a main street and a hotel on the corner which I chose for us to stay. Haley was a little unsure, but we were tired ready to call it a day. Didn’t even feel like dinner.

Can’t wait to see what tomorrow will bring. Going to go visit the Presidents. Be sure to check back in and please share this with your friends and family!
