Day 6
We took it a little slower this morning. We decided we were pushing it a little to hard, so Haley came up with the itinerary for today. First though was the free hotel breakfast! Most importantly waffles!
We packed up the car and headed out for our first stop of the day. It was a whole four miles down the road. We got out and stretched our legs after our long ride. It was a rest area along the highway with a monument dedicated to the Native American tribes of South Dakota.
There are some very nice views of the Missouri River.
Just be careful where you’re walking, apparently.
We got back in the car and traveled a couple more hours to our next stop. More flat South Dakota countryside.
Haley hadn't had her morning coffee, so that was definitely the first priority when we stopped in Sioux Falls.
After we got our coffee we headed across town for the main purpose of our stop in Sioux Falls.
Obviously a very popular place on the weekends. The weather was just perfect as well.
We made our way out if the city and back onto highway towards Kansas City.
We started to get a little hungry, but we wanted to save ourselves for some KC barbecue later this evening. Haley found a place where we could get some smoothies that would be light and refreshing. The place was located in downtown Omaha Nebraska.
The rest of the drive was uneventful. A friend of Haleys, mother lives in KC and offered to host us for the evening. We didn't want to be to late arriving so we pushed on to arrive in time for dinner. She suggested a popular BBQ restaurant called Joe's.
The line seemed very long, but it moved very quickly. It gave us plenty of time to work out our orders amongst us to make sure we had a little of everything to try.
They obviously are very popular with a lot of great reviews.
I ordered the rib dinner.
It was well worth the wait. Haley ordered the brisket sandwich which was also very good. Two thumbs up. We went back to the house to watch some World Cup.
Unfortunately, some bad weather was moving in that was generating weather warnings on our cell phones. Tornado Warning!
A confirmed tornado touched down on the other side of the city from us. We were glad that we were safe and prayed for those not so lucky tonight. We called it a night after all that excitement.
